As in crash... was it painful? Would you mind if I ask you how it happened and the details? Sorry its cause my girlfriend wants to ride a bike, but she doesn't know how dangerous it is.

well i mountain bike, i have a bad bike, but i still do it, it depends what your willing to do on how dangourus it is. like there is a huge ramp over a five foor long creek, that i wouldnt do in my life, but one of my friends has done it. and like 12 foot drop offs which they do. so it really depends on what your gonna do, but if you just stay to the small ramps in the paths and that stuff its preety safe. so id let her try it out, or at least walk along the paths befor she decideds if se wants to do it. and if you dont mean mountain biking then i have no clue if its safe but it probably is. so she should prob look at the trails and stuff before she goes out and gets a bike

edit- some crashes are apinful some are not, i had one where my friend hit the ramp wrong and fliped and landed on his back, but didnt get hurt. but you can get hurt, kinda a risk you gotta take

edit edit- lol here i am talking about mountain bikes...lol...im a retard cant even get the subject right

I wasnt hurt in either of the crashes, the first crash (I rear eneded a guy when my front wheel locked) I was fine cause I had all my gear on and pretty much just scraped my knee. Second time I was riding around a harsh curve after a big flood, and by back skidded out, I wasnt wearing anything but my helmet that time, but I landed on the grass, so again I lucked out. I would say your girlfriend would be fine on a bike, there are many bike accidents that result in little or no injury, however you only hear about the fatal ones.

And yeah they are dangerous, make sure she takes a full instructional course before even buying a bike. She'll get a better feel for riding, and it will hlp her decide what kind of bike to get, if at all.

lol losandros I'm glad you weren't hurt, but thats not scary enough to stop her from wanting one. You could've lied to me and said you were hurt so she wouldnt want to ride one. Bleh I'll take Taranis's advice and say you lost a leg or two lol

I have 2 pins in just under my knee because of my accident.

I got sandwiched between 3 cars. Hit the bumper of the parked one. Went flying right over it. Landed on my head cracked my helmet. Then they rushed me to the hosptial. Went to O.R. got out the scapel made a 2' incision. Pulled the bone out then sanded it down. Vacumed up all the bone chips. Put my leg back together then got the stanley drill and screwed in 2 screws. Stapled my leg shut with 32 staples from a staple gun. Went thru 6 months of rehab.

Now have 2' scar on my leg. Oh and I can tell when the weather is getting bad.

Fun. But I still ride and my boys do as well. It is dangerous but you just need to be careful and wear the right gear.

Wow... may I ask how did it feel? like the pain? Did you notice the pain or were you blacked out? Or was there too much pain to the point it feels as though its numb?

I have a 98 RMX250 and put 5000 miles in a year on my first Harley. I bought that one on credit when I was 20. Sweet. The Harley is gone now since I am back in school, I would sell the dirtbike, but the depreciation is faster than it is worth it while I am without health insurance

P.S. I have crashed a TON of times in the dirt. Do not ride without a GOOD doctor to fix you.

I haven't crashed on the pavement, but I have crashed on the dirt enough that I don't get crazy at high speed or on that hard pavement.

Co2, does your girlfriend really want to ride? I couldn't help but notice that you are 18. That seems like a little young to be stopping someone from doing adventurous stuff without personal experiance. I suggest that you encourage her to learn to ride in a controlled manner. Start slow, even on dirt. She should even watch some of the extreme riding videos that show what happens when the take goes wrong. But, my advice is to not to make her think that you are preventing her from riding. Remember you play Guild Wars and she wants to ride.

Has she ridden a bike before? Did she ride(drive) or sit(passenger)? Riding is an addiction. Once you get a little it is hard to get rid of.

It sure is. My oldest loves to go riding up at the camper every chance we get. And I love to go with him. Miles and miles of trails. My wife was not happy with me when I brought home his first RM50. But he was a natural. He has perfect balance and exceptional depth perception. It is just so much fun to when we get to the top of the mountain have lunch and laugh. My youngest rides the quad the oldest now is on a RM75. I ride a xr80. The big one but is is more than enough for me now. Because i'm just riding with my kids.

I rode my first dirtbike when I was 15. I then was given two non-runing '73 TC 125 Suzuki dual sports. After I ran the one I got to work in to the dirt I bought a basketcase '84 XR250R. I spent more making that bike run than my next bike, a '98 RMX250 cost me new. Man I love motorcycles.

My next bike will be, if it ever comes, a '80s crotch rocket. I want one that is horridly ugly and no one wants, but runs great. Ohh, when will that one fall into my lap?..........dreaming of the wind in my face at 50mpg................

Unhappy Motorcycles can be dangerous

A friend of mine in college had a motorcycle accident when he was 18. The gas tank ruptured. I don't know how he lived. I don't know how he lived through the pain either. His entire upper body was burned. He has no hair on his head, face, arms or torso. He has no ears. He wears a wig. His face looks like a wax head that was slowly half-melted. One arm comes to a point ending at his elbow. He uses it to hold down the shift, ctrl or alt keys. The other arm is missing all five fingers just after they emerge from the knuckles. He is able to hold a pencil between the stub of his thumb and the side of his hand and uses it to type.

Riding safely isn't always possible. Wouldn't she look just as cool driving a convertible?
